Hello there! I’m Michael Lalonde, a freelance artist living in Hamilton, Ontario. I’ve been using the computer as a creative outlet ever since I was a kid. I would spend hours sitting at my Commodore 64, just making games, creating animations, and drawing pictures and comics. I consider myself very lucky that for most of my professional career, I’ve continued to do more or less the same things that gave me so much joy when I was young.
Much of my career has been spent designing and building games for kids websites, but my artwork has also appeared in magazines, on television and on merchandise. For many years, I was an employee of various media companies such as Southam Interactive, ExtendMedia, Corus Entertainment and Kaboose, before striking out on my own to work freelance. Throughout my career, my work has appeared on numerous websites, such as YTV.com, TVOKids, Teletoon, Treehouse TV, Kaboose and Funschool. It has also been used in countless advertising campaigns for a diverse array of well-known brands, such as Adidas, Kellogg’s, Interac, Lego, Fisher-Price and Hasbro, to name just a few.
My drawing style is cute and playful, with bold lines and bright colours. My favourite projects typically involve creating visuals for kids, and I think my style really suits this audience. I love making illustrations and comics for print or web, as well as animations, or graphics for games. In my spare time, my favourite activity is hanging out in my garage, just listening to music and tinkering, or creating art using a variety of media (including whatever junk I happen to have lying around). I also love listening to records, reading, playing video games and riding my motorcyle.
